Are you and your family safe if you get seriously ill, or are injured on the job? Many people believe that because they have health insurance that they are fine. Well, I’m here to tell you, that’s just not the case.
If you read your health insurance policy carefully, you’ll see all sorts of legal terms floating around on the back page. Most of it is in 4 point font, so you probably can’t read it without a magnifying glass. However, those tiny little words on that big piece of paper spell out the exact limits of your policy. Many people aren’t aware that their policy has limits, and of those who do realize this, most have no clue what that limit is.
This is because most of us don’t ever come close to the limits on our health insurance policy, except maybe for dental or new glasses. Those limits are much lower, and with proper care given to those parts of your body, normally those limits are fine. However, across the nation, there are hundreds, if not thousands of people who, at the very moment you’re reading this, are wondering what they can possibly do to keep a loved one alive. They wonder where they’ll live. They wonder if they’ll be able to sell the house fast enough to save their spouse/brother/sister/.
This is because they, unlike the majority of Americans, HAVE reached the limits of their health insurance policies. Health insurance, as most policies read now, was never meant to cover ongoing treatment for serious illnesses such as cancer and AIDS for any length of time. They’ll cover some of the treatments needed, but no insurance company on the planet can afford to cover ongoing cancer treatments indefinitely. If they did, your premiums would be so high that you couldn’t afford it.
So, what are you to do? Well, first and foremost, you need to check into the limitations on your health insurance policy so you are aware of what those limitations are. Secondly, if you have any options of health insurance providers with your company, or if you purchase your insurance privately, shop around a bit and see what you can come up with. You’d be surprised how different the rates and coverage’s from one insurance company to another can be.
Last but not least, keep up on your doctors’ appointments and check-ups. Even if you have very low limits on your health insurance, if you can catch something serious in it’s infancy you have much better chances of it being taken care of quickly, and thus being covered under the insurance. Not to mention a better chance of surviving.
