When will Fortnite servers be back up? How long downtime for chapter 4 season 2 launch could last

When confirming the downtime ahead of the update, Fortnite stated ‘this release patch sizes may be larger than normal’

A major Fortnite update is arriving on Friday, with gamers eagerly awaiting the start of chapter 4 season 2.

Ahead of its launch Epic Games has brought the servers down to allow for the game to be patched – here’s everything we know about when it will be back.

When will the Fortnite servers be back up?

Server downtime ahead of the launch of Fortnite chapter 4, season 2 started early on Friday morning.

The game’s official support account tweeted at 6.34am UK time: “Downtime for v24.00 #FortniteMega has begun. Matchmaking is now disabled.”

Epic Games has not given a precise time that Fortnite’s servers will go live again, but previously the downtime has tended to last around three hours. This would have given a launch time of around 10am in the UK.

However, when confirming the incoming update, Fortnite stated “this release patch sizes may be larger than normal”.

This suggested that the downtime would be longer than usual, with reports suggesting that the game will be back in action at around midday.

What can you expect from the Fortnite update?

Epic tends to keep details about new seasons tightly under wraps, so the majority of Season 2 will be a surprise for players.

However, a few exciting details have leaked, included the likely theme for the map.

The setting is expected to be a futuristic, neo-Tokyo theme – a big change from the castles and open green spaces players have been exploring in season 1.

Futuristic motorbikes are expected to be placed around the map, while Lucky Landing is also set to return.

Regarding skins, it is heavily rumoured that there will be a collaboration with the Attack on Titan anime this season, including a secret skin of main character Eren Yeager. There are also rumours of Titan-based weaponry and emotes.

Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield from Resident Evil are also rumoured to be purchasable skins, which makes sense given the Resident Evil 4 remake being released at the end of the month. There are also rumours of more Star Wars skins.

Finally, there are reports there will be new “legendary” augments in Season 2, that reboot you when you die, increase your max shield, or give you siphon.
